Comparing Outcomes for Workers, 2019 Interviews

By Bogdan Savych, Vennela Thumula

January 27, 2020 Related Topics: Access to Care, Worker Outcomes

Four new state reports compare outcomes of workers injured on the job in Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, and Georgia with outcomes in 11 other states (Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin). The following are the outcomes the four studies examined:

  • Recovery of physical health and functioning
  • Return to work
  • Earnings recovery
  • Access to medical care
  • Satisfaction with medical care

The studies reflect a multiyear effort by WCRI to collect and examine data on the outcomes of medical care achieved by workers injured in a growing number of states. By examining outcomes of workers, policymakers and other stakeholders can better understand how different state workers' compensation systems compare in order to identify and prioritize opportunities to improve system performance.
