This study can help policymakers and other stakeholders identify current cost drivers and emerging trends in payments, prices, and utilization of medical services among nonhospital and hospital providers in the Pennsylvania workers’ compensation system.
It also shows how medical payments per claim and their cost components in Pennsylvania compared with 17 other states (Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin).
Claims with experience through 2016 for injuries up to and including 2015 were analyzed. Information from other Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) studies was added to provide a more complete picture of the system.
