This study can help policymakers and other stakeholders involved in the California workers’ compensation system to understand the early impact of several provisions of Senate Bill (SB) 863 (effective January 1, 2013) on medical payments, prices, and utilization based on 2013 injuries with experience through March 2014. It also compares medical payments per claim and their components in California with 16 other states (Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin) in the CompScope™ Medical Benchmarks study series, based on 2011 injuries with experience through March 2014.
