This 16th edition of CompScope™ Benchmarks for California reports some of the early impact of Senate Bill (SB) 863 (effective January 1, 2013). The study can help policymakers and system stakeholders identify current cost drivers and emerging trends in a wide variety of workers’ compensation cost measures, such as indemnity benefits, duration of temporary disability, lump-sum settlements, medical payments, and benefit delivery expenses. It also shows how total costs per claim and the components in California compared with 17 other study states. This edition analyzed claims with injury dates primarily between 2009 and 2014 (evaluated as of March 31, 2015).
