Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of another edition of WCRI’s CompScope Benchmarks, which examined the California system and found that total payments per claim in its workers’ comp system have risen steadily since 2021.

WCRI noted that for claims evaluated in 2025, total payments per claim increased by about 6 percent and that figuring out what is driving the growth requires looking beyond a single year and examining longer‑term trends. Key areas of exploration in the report included costs, income benefits, overall medical payments, use of benefits, duration of temporary disability, frequency and payments of permanent partial disability/lump-sum claims, benefit delivery expenses, timeliness of payments, and more.
