Leads in Comp Rates Decreases: Study
A report released Friday shows that
during 2005, California experienced the largest decrease in average
workers compensation costs among 14 states evaluated by the Workers
Compensation Research Institute.
California’s costs per claim dropped 15%
in 2005, Cambridge, Mass.-based WCRI analysis revealed. Reforms
drove rapid decreases in both medical costs per claim and indemnity
benefits according to the study.
Medical costs per claim dropped 10% in
2005 following a 22% decrease in 2004-2005, WCRI found in its study
monitoring reforms adopted in California from 2002 through 2004.
The
study also looked at Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana,
Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina,
Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. It can be ordered from
the WCRI Web site at
